Why was Kirk here?
“Kirk!” Yelled Spock. They were really not on good terms.
“Captain!” Kirk yelling running to Pike with McCoy and Nyota on his heels.
“Kirk, how the hell did you get on board the Enterprise?” Asked Pike standing up.
“Captain, this man’s under the influence of a severe reaction of a Melvaran flea vaccine, completely…” McCoy began to explain when Kirk tried to shut him up.
“…delusional. I take full responsibility.”
“Vulcan is not experiencing a natural disaster. It’s being attacked my Romulans.” Kirk was being serious. I stepped up and Kirk smiled at me. “Hello Emily.” Spock looked pissed that I knew him.
“Jim.” Then he went back to Pike.
“It’s being attacked by Romulans.” Why Romulans?
“Romulans?” I scoffed.
“Cadet Kirk, I think you’ve had enough attention for one day. McCoy take him back to medical we’ll have words later.” Pike dismissed him sitting back down.
“Aye Captain.” Said McCoy trying to push Kirk back but he fought back.
“Look, sir, that same anomaly…” Kirk tried again.
“Mr. Kirk is not cleared to be aboard this vessel.” Spock said sharply.
“Look, I get it, you’re a great orator. I’d love to do it again with you to.” Snapped Kirk and I smirked.
“I can remove the Cadet…” Spock tried again.
“Try it! This Cadet is trying to save the bridge!” Kirk yelled completely serious. Maybe we should give some thought to this.
“By recommending a full stop mid-warp during a rescue mission?” Spock demanded.
“It’s not a rescue mission, listen, it’s an attack.” Kirk pleaded with us.
“Based on what facts?” I finally asked him. This is my home I will protect it. Kirk looked at me straight in the eyes.
“That same anomaly, a lightning storm in space that we saw today, also occurred on the day of my birth before a Romulan ship attacked the USS Kelvin.” Then he looked at Pike as my brain worked. He had a point yet there needed to be more evidence to draw a conclusion. “You know that sir I read your dissertation, that ship which had formidable and advanced weaponry was never seen or heard from again. The Kelvin was attacked on the edge of Klingon Space and at twenty-three hundred hours last night there was an attack. Forty-seven Klingon war birds destroyed by Romulans sir. It was reported that the Romulans were in one ship, one massive ship.” Kirk went on and my heart began to pound. My home.
“And you know of this attack how?” Asked Pike.
“Sir, I intercepted and translated the message myself. Kirk’s report is accurate.” Nyota piped up all eyes on her now.
“We’re warping into a trap sir. The Romulans are waiting for us. I promise you that.”
“Jim’s logic is sound.” I noted nodding. He smiled at me then looked back at Pike.
“And Lieutenant Uhura is unmatched in Xenolinguistics; we would be wise to accept her conclusion.” Spock commented. It was really hard not to roll my eyes as she smiled.
“Scan Vulcan space, check for any transmissions in Romulan.” Pike Ordered. The young man sitting at the desk wasn’t sure. I just sighed and walked back my head flooding with terrifying thoughts.
“You’re Vulcan?” Asked Sulu after a moment. I looked over with a smile.
“Half Vulcan. Half Human.” I corrected. “I grew up on Vulcan though.” I smiled again and then crossed my arms.
“Shields up, red alert.” Pike suddenly ordered. I turned around looking at him as everyone sat down or gripped something. “Arrival in Vulcan in five seconds…four…three…two…” We stopped and I fell next to Chekov’s chair.
“Oy! Are you okay?” Asked Chekov. My blue eyes met his and I nodded.
“Emergency evasive!” Pike shouted breaking the trance as we went back to work. I stumbled to one of the stations and began running a damage report.
“Damage report!” Yelled Pike.
“Deflector shields are holding!” I called.
“All stations. Engineer Olson report. Full reverse, come about starboard ninety degrees and drop us underneath and…”
“Captain they’re locking torpedoes.” Spock suddenly piped up. We were hit making me fall to the floor by Chekov again! I smiled at the situation. Even he managed a little laugh.
“Avery auxiliary power from port nacelles to forward shield. Sulu status report.”
“Shields at thirty-two percent. They’re weapons are powerful sir we can’t take another hit like that.”
“Get me Starfleet Command.”
“Captain, the Romulan ship has lowered something of high energy device into the Vulcan atmosphere.” I said after stumbling back to the station.
“It’s signal appears to be blocking out communications and transporter abilities.” Nyota added.
“All power to forward shields. Prepare to fire all weapons.”
“Captain we’re being hailed!” Called Nyota. A younger Romulan man appeared on the screen.
“Hello.” He said casually.
“I’m Captain Christopher Pike. To whom am I speaking?” Asked Pike standing up.
“Hi Christopher, I’m Nero.” It was so casual it baffled me.
“You’ve declared war against the Federation. Withdraw. I’ll agree to arrange a conference with Romulan leadership at a neutral location.”
“I do not speak for the empire.” He said sharply. Who was this man then? “We stand apart…as does your two Vulcan crew members isn’t that right Spock, Emily.” I stood up and ended up standing next to Chekov looking at the man with interest. Spock walked up to me and pulled me back and behind him.
“Pardon me; I do not believe that you and I are acquainted.” Nero gave a sick smile as I tried to move Spock.
“No, we’re not. Not yet. Spock, Emily there’s something I would like you to see. Captain Pike, your transporter has been disabled. As you can see by the rest of your armada you have no choice. You will man a shuttle, come aboard the Narada for negotiations. That is all.” Then he was gone. I moved Spock and we sat in silence for a moment.
“He’ll kill you, you know that.” Kirk finally said.
“Your survival is unlikely.” I mentioned.
“Captain we gain nothing by diplomacy. Going over to that ship is a mistake.” Kirk pushed his point.
“I too agree. You should rethink your strategy.” Spock said.
“I understand that. I need officers who have been trained in advanced hand-to-hand combat.” Pike said. Silence. Then Sulu raised his hand.
“I have training sir.”
“Come with me. Kirk, you too you’re not supposed to be here anyway. Chekov you have the conn. Emily take the controls.”
“Aye.” Chekov and I both said. I took Sulu’s chair and smiled over at Chekov.
