Wings of Fire - Sunstone s Journey

Chapter 1

"What's taking you two so long?" Staffer groaned from behind Sunstone.  "Wasp could be back at any moment."

Clearwing turned around. "Excuse me, but you shall refer to as Queen Wasp from now in," she replied sarcastically.  Sunstone giggled.

"Yeah, you buffoon."

Staffer rolled his eyes.  "You're lucky that the queen is visiting Mantis Hive today, or two SilkWings like you would make a great meal for her."

Sunstone, Clearwing, and Staffer had been sent by the rest of the chrysalis into the queen's home to look for things that would be useful.  If she does come back, she won't be able to fight all of us, Sunstone thought, trying to convince himself that was true, when, in reality, Wasp could mind-control every HiveWing in the hive to capture them.

Except Staffer.

Before Staffer has even hatched, the chrysalis had stolen his egg from the Wasp Hive hatchery.  In Sunstone's opinion, it was a stupid risk since Wasp could take over his mind and see out of his eyes whenever she wanted.  But, for some reason, Staffer wasn't able to be mind-controlled.  Nobody knew why.

Sunstone headed for a weird-looking box and noticed it had a lock.  He made a small thread of fiery silk come out of one of his talons.  He was a flamesilk, a SilkWing whose silk can burn, instead of being used to build webs.  He carefully burned the lock and opened the box when the lock melted.

Inside was a small, folded-up piece of paper.  "Hey, what's this?" Sunstone asked the other two dragons while unfolding it.

Clearwing had a puzzled look on her face, and Staffer shook his head.  Sunstone unfolded it all the way.  It was a map, labeled "Clearsight's Map" on the top.  It showed the eastern coast of Pantala, a weird continent-looking thing, and small islands dotting the ocean in between.

"It says 'Clearsight's Map' on here on the top.  Look," said Sunstone.  He turned the paper to face Staffer and Clearwing.

"That's... weird," said Clearwing.  "The only thing that Clearsight left behind was the Book of Clearsight."

"It looks fishy to me," grunted Staffer.  "What does that say?" he asked as he pointed to some smudged writing next to the weird continent.  "Pyrah? Perriah?"

"Pyrrhia," whispered Clearwing.  "I've heard of it."

Before anyone could say anything else, they heard a sound outside.
